The Pendulum Keeps Swinging

pendulumWhere are you on the pendulum?

Sometimes we focus so hard on the external world; women, money, physical experiences, that we forget to feed the internal space.

Books

Meditation

Journaling

Brainstorming

Sometimes we spend so much time in the internal world, the external floats away. We get lost in our thoughts, in our work, and neglect our friends, the world outside our home.

I’ve never been one to balance. I tend to go from one extreme to another. I’m either out partying seven nights a week, or I’m at home with my phone off, neglecting my friends, family, women, and outer life, in order to spend time in the creative zone.

Should there be balance? I don’t know. Sometimes the middle of the road is the most dangerous place to be.

Choose your path and for a certain time, stick to it with an unhealthy determination.

Spend too much time externally, working out, partying, travelling, and you gain much, but this comes at a cost to your health and resources.

Spend too much time reading books, watching movies, creating art and relaxing alone, and you gain much intellectual knowledge, but risk slipping into the life of an introvert.

Whenever you find yourself swinging too far on the pendulum, feel free to hop off and decide, which side you will spend more time on? At least make a conscious choice instead of drunkenly swinging as if pushed by the hands of trickster.

  • Unconditional Love

Most of my family lives in a small town in the interior of British Columbia, Canada. I rarely see them. Mostly because I’m a city boy, and it’s a long trip to make out to the country. But this year I told myself I would make more effort to connect with them. Family time. Boooooring….

  • What Is Love Anyway?

A few years ago I started hearing from women what I considered three problematic words: “I love you.” To my Casanovian ears these words rang holy alarm bells. They meant I’d be dealing with neediness, jealousy, and women who were what my natural friend calls “Dick Sick.” I’ve since changed my views. Most guys who…
