What are Your Logistics?
During my last trip to Montreal, I rented a flat on rue St. Laurent, in the Plateau; the hippest neighbourhood in the city, with the best night-life shopping and café’s. Of course, it also contained the highest ratio of hot girls.
Every day I’d go out to a café or park to work on my novel (just working on the cover now, soon, soon) and every day I’d meet a new pretty girl. I didn’t date all of the girls I met, but just being in a neighbourhood with limitless dating opportunity lifted my spirits and made me excited to get up in the morning.
At night I could walk five minutes from my apartment and be in a bar, hitting on girls. If I met one I liked, I could bounce her to another bar, and then it was easy to say, “Hey, I live right there. Let’s go have a shot.” Of course, once in my château, it was game over.
When I was in Asia I’d find a nice bungalow near local bars or beaches. During the day I’d meet girls on the beach, and say, “I have a bungalow right there, want to come smoke a J?” At night I’d meet girls at parties and say the same thing, whether it was a J, or to watch a movie, or have a shot.
In Vancouver, unfortunately the rent downtown is highly inflated, and not economical. So I live quite far from the hub. My neighbourhood has very few hot girls; mostly the lower echelon of hipsterdom: tattooed chicks with bad fashion sense, bad attitudes, masculinized natures, low self-esteem and a mile long check-list of unreasonable dating criteria. I’m here because I can afford it, and I like to travel, so I need my money.
Since my apartment is so far from hot women, I have to go to other neighbourhoods to meet them. I can’t say, “I live right there.” Often I’m too busy or have no reason to go down town.
At night, a cab home costs around $30, which isn’t horrible, but not what most young men can afford. Also, if you’re trying to pull a girl home, a ten minute cab ride can be intimidating to her. “Where is he taking me?” Not to say that I don’t make it work, it’s just not as easy.
If I continue to make more money and stay in the dating hell of Vancouver, I’ll either end up with a subpar girlfriend due to a dating rut, or I’ll move down town, where hot women are plentiful, and logistics are an after thought.
Where are you living? If you walk out your door, are there bountiful numbers of hot women? Because if you don’t live in this environment, the motivation to practice will fall to the wayside and you’ll choose tv, video games, or the Internet over going out.
Good points all around. This is another convincing to rent (as opposed to owning property)…you can always move to where the wild things are.
