How to Be Focused in Seven Minutes

Hey Bro. Let’s talk about productivity.

When I started out in this game, all I really wanted was to spend some intimate time with a few pretty women. Most of my life I felt less than worthy, like these chicks were above me somehow. Boy was I wrong. Learning pickup was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It’s an awesome skill to have developed.

However, having an endless supply of new women is not the key to eternal bliss. You could be banging a new chick every week but if you are broke, unhealthy, out of shape and emotionally scattered and without purpose, then you will not be fulfilled (trust me on this).

Do you have a laundry list of bullshit you need to take care of? Your taxes, your bills, your career chores, your dirty room, your exercise goals and so forth? Maybe you have this list but you aren’t getting anything done. Here is a really simple, yet incredibly powerful exercise that will help you get this stuff dealt with.

This involves two steps. It’s important that you administer these steps daily as they are designed to re-program your subconscious–and that takes time. However, you will notice if done correctly, the results are immediate and powerful.

Step one: Affirmation.

Time: Two Minutes.

Say out loud, “I am xyz.” Replace xyz with whatever trait you wish to develop. So that could be, “Confident, focused, determined, ambitious, organized, etc.”

This is powerful because we truly do become what we think. I mean, you can’t affirmation yourself to be tall, but you can change inner beliefs and internal dialogue. For myself I like to be focused on my career and health so that I don’t spend my whole day playing video games or watching Entourage. So I’ll say, “I’m focused! I’m focused!” My neighbors probably think I’m nuts, but hey…fuck them. They don’t bang tens.

Do this whenever you feel like. I prefer immediately after breakfast, before I start my work. They say morning is the best time for affirmations, within thirty minutes of waking up.

Step Two: Visualization.

Time: Five Minutes

Imagine the task or tasks you wish to accomplish. See yourself going through your day and completing the things you want to get done. If that’s cleaning your apartment, then see yourself cleaning, see the end result and imagine vividly the joy of having a clean house. Imagine the sense of relief when you do your banking. Imagine the feeling of accomplishment when you write a short story or song.

Imagine as deeply and prophetically as you desire.

And then open your eyes, and DO IT.

You will notice that as soon as you finish this exercise you will feel awesome. You will feel like you’ve actually accomplished these goals, and that YOU ARE THAT PERSON you wish you were. However the moment is fleeting. You will want to keep those good feelings.

Half the battle is commitment based. In order to start, you need to show up. It’s so much easier to play out the difficult task in your mind prior to actually performing the act.

I’m no expert in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), but I can tell you from experience that this exercise is a very kickass tool. It works.

By pretending to be that person, you become that person.

It’s true. And here is another sad truth. This exercise seems hokey, lame, weird. Most guys won’t do it. They will never even try. Most won’t go out and approach women, won’t do affirmations, won’t use vivid imagery. They will do nothing and for their lack of effort, receive nothing.

But you aren’t like the rest are you? You WILL do this.

Why is it so important you do this and not that other thing? The other thing is checking your Facebook, playing Warcraft, watching t.v., reading a blog.

Because if you don’t do this…you may live a boring and unfulfilling life. If you don’t take drastic action to correct your mind, then you will never truly know what sort of life you may have had.

Regret.

So do it. Do whatever it takes. There will be plenty of time to rest and watch t.v. in your hospital bed as you wait for whatever ailment is going to kill you. And it’s not that far off.

The pain you feel is the pain of doing nothing.

And on that note! Sign up above to have my blog delivered straight into your inbox. It took me a lot of affirmations and visualizations to write all these articles. And if you have tried this exercise, let me know the results in the comments below.

Have fun.

  1. It really is amazing how this works. Here is a quick anecdote: Two months ago, I was not visualizing or affirming. Then I remembered times in my life when I had, and the resulting progress. Once I started again, it took just a few days to be offered a promotion at work, and hook up with a foxy lady friend from my job as well. The more you see yourself as the architect of your life, more opportunities and possibilities reveal themselves. Use dreams as the blueprint for your goals and spend everyday being what you dream of. Life is limitless, your only restrictions are the ones you give yourself. Remember that.

  2. Hey Tony!

I have had moments recently where I somewhat go through this process. Like I got my ass kicked on a midterm or two and I realized I needed to simply “try harder” as a friend put it. And for a few days afterwards I was super pumped to get my priorities straight. Of course, I always end up forgetting about that whole feeling a few days later.

I’m going to start using this 7 minute thing, its really inspiring stuff.

Thanks for the articles! Keep up the sick work.
