Don’t Limit Yourself

When you feel your lowest and nothing seems to stick–push harder. Always exert effort in bursts; then wait for the return on your investment.

Pickup as a self-improvement tool is a lot like that Psyler character from the tv show “Heroes.” Psyler has the ability to absorb the powers of other super heroes. When you do approaches, don’t think about an outcome like whether or not you will get the girls attraction; instead imagine that every person you talk to gives you strength, experience and power.

Now note, Psyler had to kill the heroes to get the power…so no killing, please.

Several months ago I had a very rough time making rent. I just couldn’t find a damn client. I actually became so discouraged I went and got a restaurant job. Night after night I was working beside obnoxiously unhappy people who trapped themselves in an environment that offered limited growth.

The cooks were miserable, especially the head chef who was the most depressed man I have ever met. He would constantly berate and belittle his staff. He was extremely overweight and an alcoholic (just for icing on the cake).

Some of the servers were so sick with egoic chatter. The gossip was rampant and breakdowns were a regular occurrence.

Some of the servers would ask me, “Tony. How do you stay so chill and happy all the time?

“Well,” I’d say. “This is just a thing I do. I have a passion that I work on every day. If you aren’t growing towards something you are stagnating. This makes people, especially men, extremely unhappy. Lack of purpose.”

It always floored me how this simple statement would affect people. Here I was, the 32 year old bus boy, giving them lessons on ego, Zen and purpose.

However, I was lying. I was not happy. I was not embracing my career as a dating coach. I was hiding from it out of fear.

The months went by and I got into a routine of NOT advertising. I started to think perhaps I should just stay in the restaurant industry forever. Then one day I was standing on the floor and two fairly famous dating coaches came in. I felt terror, shame, disgust. Here were two guys that travelled the world helping men become better people, and here I was cleaning their table when I knew damn well I should be sitting with them.

I went home that wrote an article on “purpose,” and posted it on this blog. The next day I completed my free Ebook. I posted a dozen ads on craigslist. And several weeks later, after the cook yelled at me for no apparent reason, I took off my apron and walked out.

I’m not saying I’ll never need a day job again; every month is a terrifying adventure. Being an entrepreneur has its ups and downs. But if you aren’t finding a girl…realize she is just one more approach away. If you hate your job, there is an option, you could start again, or start your own business.

You can create the life you are meant to live.

Don’t fucking give up!!!

  1. Good for you Tony. It takes a lot of courage to recognize that we are in a rut and to take bold steps outside of our comfort zones to find growth.

Maybe it’s in dating or fitness or career – whatever. But there’s days where you wake up and it’s like “wow same shit just different day” but you persist and keep plugging away because you know there’s a light at the end of that tunnel, that persistence pays off in the end. I call it “the fire.” You just have to want it badly enough – more than most other people.

Just need to echo chamber that back into the InterWeb, for good effect.

Good to see your writing so much.
